MackayMitchell Envelope Company is actively seeking a qualified, committed and hands-on Plant Manager who will function as a key member of the facility leadership team within a union environment. The Plant Manager provides high level leadership in directing, facilitating and optimizing Operations and Supply Chain processes, and ensures capacity and operational capability are deployed in support of strategic objectives. The Plant Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Operations and is accountable for all aspects of plant performance, with a focus on safety, quality, people, material yields, labor efficiencies, continuous improvement, customer service and performance.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality, supply chain and other production-related activities
  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed customer expectations
  • Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
  • Oversee manufacturing supervisors and employees to ensure proper job scheduling and adequate plant staffing
  • Oversee Supply Chain Supervisor and employees to ensure on-time shipments and inventory accuracy
  • Coordinate all plant activities to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Develop and maintain organizational and safety policies and procedures, demonstrating a strong and visible commitment to Company objectives
  • Ensure quality and consistency of product, improve efficiencies and control/reduce waste and associated costs throughout plant operations
  • Review and analyze production reports, address production-related issues, manage monthly inventory and third-party audits
  • Plan, monitor and manage financial budgets and direct plant purchasing and vendor procurement
  • Communicate, incorporate and manage corporate goals
  • Provide dynamic, goal-driven leadership to build, motivate, train and lead a high-performing team
  • Develop thorough understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); Manage directly and through subordinate personnel, plant employees so that effective management/union working relationships are sustained
  • Foster an environment of engagement and retention through recognition and feedback
  • Effectively address employee issues/grievances and provide appropriate feedback
  • Demonstrate flexibility in providing leadership presence during all shift schedules to achieve a productive and cohesive work environment
  • May occasionally be required to travel
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Critical thinking with ability to act with a strong sense of urgency

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 5-10 years plant management/operations experience, preferably in the envelope converting industry
  • Demonstrated experience with workflow management, systems management, waste reduction and operational efficiency; LEAN manufacturing experience a plus
  • Prior experience reflecting strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
  • In-depth knowledge of safety, quality, productivity and inventory processes

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s or advanced degree
  • Experience in envelope manufacturing or printing industry
  • Previous quality management experience
  • Previous color management (G7)
  • Previous experience leading within a union environment
